I am Travis McManus and I have been in ministry for the past twenty-five years. My wife Annette and I reside in Crystal Springs, Mississippi.
I first visited Bujumbura, Burundi, Africa in 2006 as part of team to train at several Pastor Conferences. Our mission was to assist them in planting new churches and ministries. We also preached crusades in surrounding areas during our visit.
We saw much success during these conferences and crusades, but for me, I experienced a new direction and vision.
As we walked the streets and drove the country side, we were drawn to the children, begging for food and even eating from garbage dumps. The local Pastors began sharing the needs of millions of orphans in Burundi and Rwanda. Some were orphaned as a result of the civil war that lasted twelve long years, their parents murdered in front of their eyes, the younger ones never even knowing their parents.
The HIV/Aids virus is the cause of death to the parents of others. The average life span is forty nine years. The children are left to fend for themselves. Even if they have relatives to stay with, they are treated as slaves and there is never enough food for these children.
This was truly and encounter with God, a moment that will stay with me forever. That moment I knew He was burning something in my heart that was bigger than my mind could conceive. I knew He was allowing me to be a part of the plan to feed and clothe these children, to give them an education. But the most important part was to share the love of Jesus to change their destiny for Eternity.
On the return trip home, I began to share my vision with two other Pastors on our team. Pastors Darrel Blankenship and Rick Lee. They knew they were a part of the vision God had shown me.
God opened doors and the plan began to unfold, He placed in our path key people from Burundi, people who wanted to join the vision with us. We organized a board, applied for our non-profit status (501 (c) (3)) as African Children Outreach, Inc. We shared our plan to feed orphans with churches, businesses and individuals.
Beginning 2007, we began feeding forty orphans and as of today we were furnishing food, clothing and educating 600 children daily. These children are being taught the love of Jesus through His word and through physical nourishment.
We have the privilege of being a part of God’s plan to care for His children. You can join us by supporting the African Children Outreach ministry. We are a non-profit organization and an NGO in Burundi, Africa.
God has heard their cries and is allowing ACO to show His plan to give them hope and a future…a plan for good…Jeremiah 29:11
